Brand Me Chia-chun Chen Student ID: 2030309 Introduction A Chinese poem says that: The longest distance in the world is neither between life and death, but is that I am just behind you, and you are not aware of that I love you. (Amy Cheung,” Single bed in purse”) ?? The love poem not only can be used in the intelligence field, but also in the workplace where competition and pressure are emphasized. Personal brand is a significant part for marketing yourself. Definition of personal branding
Nowadays, it is time to do personal brand, it is not about how excellent you are, but how you market yourself and what value you provide. (Montoya & Vandehey, 2002; Keller, 2008) This is also the most important and most basic marketing. If people know how to brand themselves, they are able to stand out in the group. Many people who are brilliant can only use degree, and former working experience to look for job. However, it is regrettable sometimes, as some people are not good at marketing themselves, so that people cannot understand their talent and ability, losing their opportunities in the end.
Branding yourself refers to let others know you since someone has a story which is worth talking about, some people who like you will give them opportunities (Montoya & Vandehey, 2004) Application of personal branding Self-branding can be applied to the workplace, but also can be applied to school life and daily life. It is easier to improve their popularity and charm. (Montoya & Vandehey, 2002) Personal branding means taking time and thinking a way to give people a good impression. Even if there is nothing important, however, people might take time and contact with relevant customers.
Email is a convenient access, but a phone call or a post card will be better. Personally, I usually make a phone call to relevant person and use informal way to talk about the work or any topics. The reason why I do this is not because of immediate benefit, but to keep in touch and get the new information. I also believe that because I am engaged in this work, the resources will not end when I need help from others, so personal branding is a long-term process (Cooley, 2010). It also involves self-confidence, when I convince others to assert me, I also encourage myself at the same time.
Personal branding The following illustrates what personal branding I have. ?Crisis management operating: Thanks to my experience from an internship at a hotel, I have trained to handle urgent circumstances and do so in a calm and professional manner. Handling Crisis well can turn it into an opportunity (Schwartz, 2011). I am confident that can face variety problems and deal with them. ?Capability of teambuilding: I learned how to collaborate with team members and then trusted them during my cheerleading time.
In marketing, we have to cooperate with colleagues very often, since the influence of teams with brainstorming are more effective than individual (Zaccaro, 2001). ?Communication skills: Master the communication skills will make a pleasant workplace, and also is an opportunity for leadership development, as conflict is reduced. My work experience let me learn management and marketing. Although it was a challenge for me to communicate and negotiate with my boss and colleagues, I gradually improved the skill and got more confidence. Leadership skills: A lead requires competence. If leaders do not have this, they will not be trusted. After promoting to the department of training, I had to teach staffs professional skills and tried to lead them complete jobs. The most challenging aspect of this work was earning the trust of my colleagues and managers and resolving customers’ issues in a soft manner. I set a good example to let others trust me and then follow me. As affirmation of personal behavior in the target market is considered to be superior, and reliable. Mauer, 2005) Due to my effectiveness in this role, the company trained me as a future manager, and I was given the added responsibility of dealing with the staff members’ problems and providing support as necessary. Conclusion After I graduate from MSc Marketing I will look for a job which is in marketing and also related to beauty industry and hotel which are my previous experience a in my own country, both of them are service industry. I am confident that I can use good communication skills to face customers and use a different point to marketing them due to my wide professional knowledge.
Furthermore, I can be a leader in few years and make people associate to me if they need. I will make a great atmosphere in a whole team, and try to listen to my team members’ opinion and give them my respect. In my future career, I will not only apply skill which I have learned, but also have to develop my potential which I have not known. ? Reference Cheung, A. (1997). Single bed in purse.
